I became inspired one day while I was listening to Michael Bal singing two songs that he wrote Someone Else's Dream and Just When, as well as The Overtones' song Superstar, which they wrote - I thought I would love to do something like that so I tried. This is something that I have written to give people an insight into the feelings of a severely disabled person and to show there's more to the person than people first think. It's more like a poem than a song.
Real Me
People stare, glare but I don’t care
They see what they want to see, that’s the one thing I have to bare
Why can’t you see the real me
Is this the way things have to be
If you look into my eyes, then you will realise what’s inside

Don’t judge a book by its cover
It’s time to discover
My eyes will tell you what you need to know
It’s just like putting on a show

My smile is from the heart, it is a good place to start
My outlook towards life sets me apart

I have heard the whispers from behind my back, they don’t mean jack
What they don’t know is I always fight back
For all the obstacles that stood in my way, I never walked away
I fought every step of the way, it made me the person I am today

Creation, inspiration and determination are apparent within me
But they become blurred with discrimination – it isn’t the way things are meant to be
Give me a chance to shine
This time is mine, may be the stars will align
So let me please have a sign, to allow me to shine
All I ask for is a chance to sparkle like a star
My potential will take me far
